Morning Bird

Do you believe in “the early bird gets the worm”, or “the early worm gets eaten by the bird”? Let’s draw a morning bird.

Drawing tool: Procreate

Thoughts

At the beginning, I was planning to practice two different ways of starting a sketch. One is to use lines and the other one is to use color blocks. After creating those sketches, I combined them to see how much they were off.

Probably because the subject is a bird, somehow I kind of wanted to make it feel like morning. After I added in the highlights, plus some warm sunlight coming from the top right corner, it looked more energetic.

For the background, I planned to use gaussian blur right at the beginning. So I just put in some color blocks and saved some time on it. It just took a few minutes and the background is persuasive.

This painting took me around 2-3 hours to complete. I didn’t time myself. I thought I would take much longer as I’m not that familiar with digital painting. This is done unexpectedly fast to me. I believe I can be faster when I’m familiarized with the tool.
